Only 84 days until Beijing! (Olympics start 8-8-08, updated on 5-15-08) “On the mountains of truth, you can never climb in vain: Either you will reach a point higher up today, or you will be training your powers so that you will be able to climb higher tomorrow.” - Friedrich Nietzsche Coach's Corner (updated)Swim Indy is now operating as Brownsburg Swim Club! You may notice some changes around the pool or on the web. This is due to our transition to BBSC. Our team has made a home at the Bulldog Aquatic Center in Brownsburg High School. Now that we can identify with a community, we are adopting a community persona. Thank you to all of the parents, board members, and coaches that have made this long process a dream come true. Congratulations!!! BBSC swimmers Brent Scaife and Elizabeth Wishart have been selected to participate in the Indiana Swimming Age Group Elite Camp over Memorial Day weekend in Crawfordsville. May Practice Schedule - UPDATE The practice schedule for the first three weeks of May has been posted at the pool and on the club website. Please note that at the end of May, an extensive construction project will begin at Brownsburg High School. This project will affect the entrances to the pool and will necessitate a few days of the pool being closed. As of now, the pool will be closed due to construction on Friday, May 23 and is scheduled to re-open on Thursday, May 29. Training arrangements for all groups are in the works. So far, we have secured the following training times and locations: Senior /
Senior Development: Spring Novice Group The spring Novice Group has begun, and there is room for more swimmers! Novice will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (with the exception of Memorial Day and possibly graduation day at Brownsburg) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Brownsburg High School, through May 30. If you have questions or know of anyone interested in Novice, please contact Coach Josh. Individual Parent / Swimmer Meetings There are still opportunities to signup for an individual parent / swimmer meet for all swimmers in the Gold, Senior Development and Senior groups. These meetings are valuable opportunities for families to discuss the upcoming season with their group coach. Signup sheets are posted on the office door. If the available slots don’t work for you, please let your group coach know and an alternative arrangement can be made. Upcoming EventsEntries/Meet Packets available on the club website. (more)
FAST 500 – Updated entry posted! An updated entry for the FAST 500 Invitational (May 16-18 @ Fishers High School) has been posted on the club website. We are still allowed to make updates to our entry through Monday, the week of the meet (May 12). If something comes up and you know you aren’t able to attend, or if you haven’t signed up and would like to attend, please contact Coach Josh ASAP. BBSC Summer Splash The next meet on the schedule is our home meet, the BBSC Summer Splash (June 6-8 @ Brownsburg High School). This is our big event for the summer and we need a full team effort! Swimmers, please signup to participate in this meet and parents, keep your eyes peeled for volunteer signups as the date gets closer. We need all of our awesome volunteers in full force! Irish Aquatics Hotels For everyone traveling to the Irish Aquatics Summer Classic (July 11-13 @ University of Notre Dame), the hosts have provided some hotel information. IA has blocked rooms at three hotels: The Residence Inn (716 N. Niles Avenue; South Bend, IN 46617; 574-282-8030); The Residence Inn (231 Park Place; Mishawaka, IN 46545; 574-271-9283); Waterford Estates (US 933; South Bend, IN 46635; 574-877-8496). The rooms are blocked under “Irish Aquatics.” Carmel “Splash, Flash & Dash” Results Several BBSC swimmers (and one dad) participated in the Carmel Swim Club sprint triathlon last weekend. Two Bulldogs were age group winners: Katie Ancel (15-19 women) and Ashlee Hammer (15-16 youth). Katie was 167th overall in the adult race, while Ashlee was 28th overall in the youth race. Overall finishes for the other Bulldog triathletes are: Zach Laffin (118th), Eric Waggoner (133rd), Andy Ancel (218th), Janet Watson (241st) and Elizabeth Ancel (301st). Way to go Bulldogs! Meet Fees / No Shows There were several “no shows” at one of the meet this season, so I wanted to take a moment to give everyone an overview of the protocol for entering meets. Our families signup for the meets online and via hard copy, and the coaches build the meet entries from this information. The entries are then submitted to the host club. Upon acceptance to the meet, teams are now responsible for paying for their entries. However, the host club always allows an opportunity to make changes to the entries, including additions and deletions. And our meet entries are always posted to the club website for your review. If you know ahead of time that you will not be able to attend a meet you have previously signed up for, please alert the coaching staff so the changes can be made, and you are not billed for events you don’t swim! If you have any questions about entering meets and meet billing, please contact Coach Josh. News & AnnouncementsDonate to Relay for Life to help support one of our swimmers Team Bowling Activity! We have more than 50 people signed up for our team bowling activity this Saturday, May 10! That’s a great number and it should be a fun day! The cost, with tax, is $11.67 per person, and includes unlimited games for 2 hours, plus shoes, snacks and drinks. This fund is only a year old, but has already provided a valuable and worthwhile experience to several members of the club, allowing them to participate and reap the rewards from competitive swimming. Details of the garage sale are as follows:
Again, please donate to this event and support the club’s efforts to give opportunities to those who need them, to participate in this sport we all love. Your generosity is appreciated! Team Equipment New Brownsburg Swim Club T shirts are now available from Team Sports in Brownsburg. These are available on a “walk in” basis, and everyone is encouraged to head over to Team Sports and pick one (or more) up. The cost is approximately $11 per shirt. Also, the artwork can be screened onto other clothing items if you prefer. New BBSC team caps are in the works and should be here before the FAST 500. Also, if you need a team suit, you can still order the team suits from Action Accents. These suits were not embroidered or screened. They are a simple “off the rack” print. We will, however, have a new team suit in the fall. Silver Group Reminder Coach Raz would like to remind all Silver Group swimmers that they should make an effort to own their own fins, kickboard and mesh equipment bag. All of these items are available online from Action Accents, or locally from one of the city swim shops. Other BBSC Team Equipment Artwork for Brownsburg Swim Club team caps and team banner have been approved and are in the works! We should have the caps in time for the FAST 500, the banner maybe not. But by the BBSC Summer Splash (see below), we should be fully outfitted in BBSC gear! Action Accents A couple folks have asked about equipment items, so we’d like to again publish the username and password to our custom page at Action Accents, our equipment provider. We are contracted with TYR through Action Accents, and there are also a number of training items on our custom page, in addition to our team suits. Club Post Office Box Reminder Swim Indy now has a post office box available to its members for payments or other items that can be dropped in the mail. The new club mailing address is: Swim Indy; P.O. Box 971; Brownsburg, IN, 46112. Please use the post office box when possible for all payments or other club correspondence. The videos show the swimmers training, but also feature explanation from the coaches regarding the training sets the swimmers are doing. It offers a lot of insight, and a glimpse into the training environment of world class athletes. Check it out, and see if you have what it takes to be the best!
